I love to teach. Face to face, online, traditional students, mature students, it doesn’t matter. I do not view teaching as an opportunity to impart knowledge to those that are lacking it. Rather, teaching is about cultivating the curiosity of students and then providing them with the opportunities to learn, while at the same time holding them responsible for their own development. When I contemplate what it is I ultimately want for all of my students to achieve as part of their education, I know that I want them to grasp the fundamental concepts of each course that I teach; however, this is not enough. Ultimately, I want my students to be better prepared to succeed in their lives. This means they need to be able to communicate effectively, think critically, be open to experience, and be confident in the abilities that they have cultivated as part of their educations. I want them to Learn Today. Lead Tomorrow.
My teaching areas have been diverse, although I prefer to teach classes in Human Resources Management and Organizational Behavior, I also have extensive experience teaching our Entrepreneurship Business Planning courses. I have also taught classes in Comparative Management, Organizational Development & Change and Fundamentals of Management.
I've been honored to have my teaching recognized on several fronts while at ECU. Now, rather than seeking accolades I spend my time trying to facilitate others so they can hopefully learn from my experiences and avoid my mistakes. For several years I participated in ECU's new faculty seminars, ECU's Office for Faculty Excellence providing training related to online education and have brought several sessions to COB faculty via the Deans Development Lunches programs I initiated in fall 2012.
